“Refuge”

Mixed Media coated in Resin

Mixed media painting using acrylic, ink, charcoal, spray paint, 24 karat gold leaf and dried paint skins of the painters palette, all sealed with glossy resin. The leftovers from previous works become the unexpected detail in current work. I love it because it’s unique, it’s interesting, it adds texture.

Please note - This painting does include a gallery frame. Please indicate gold or natural wood in the drop-down when checking out.

Bigger painting surfaces allow for a bit more movement and expression and the process becomes more involved as I build up the layers and textures. It’s typically a longer process that I become more involved and invested in. Painting intuitively and energetically this way allows me to have fun with different tools and shapes and to get into a headspace that allows me to work through and process all that life presents. It’s during this deep dive that I use these layers to either write in with water soluble mediums or etch into the surface prayers, lyrics, scripture or just whatever is on my mind at the time. Spanning the width of the bottom portion of this painting “my rock, my fortress, my refuge” (Psalm 18:2) has been etched into the paint. It was covered in subsequent layers with a wash, but if you look close it is still faintly visible. Without knowing what it says you may not notice, but with the knowledge of what’s there you can make out the script. “Thy Will Be Done” is also etched in a bit less subtly in the lighter paint outlining the upper portion of one of the center rocks.

** Please note the painting was not yet signed at the time of photographing. It does include an artist signature on the bottom right corner of the painting.
