How Many Times Collection

How Many Times is a body of work inspired by Matthew 18:21–22, where forgiveness is framed not as a single moment of resolution, but as a posture we return to again and again. The series reflects on endurance, obedience, and the often unseen work of extending grace over time. It challenges us to be selfless and forgive even when it’s hard.

Each painting is built through layered surfaces and repeated tally marks—first written in charcoal, then partially buried beneath paint, smeared, softened, and re-marked to bring them forward again. The process itself mirrors the theme of the work: marks made, covered, and made again, leaving space for return rather than closure. I love the simple yet powerful message of tally marks across the canvas, always leaving room for more, but the more colorful layered canvas’s reflect the infinite nature of that call with tally marks etched in and painted on each layer, always room for more.

How Many Times invites the viewer to consider forgiveness not as something counted or completed, but as something practiced, the repetition of tally marks a reminder to keep going, there’s room for more……..just as there’s room for more where we need to be forgiven.
